Got the club going up....
Tuesday is normally a running day for me. But yesterday, as I looked at my schedule, I realized that I wasn't going to be able to fit in my run in the afternoon. So I had a choice to make; should I wake up super early and run at the gym or should I skip today's run?

Race Recap: Seashore Strider's 8th Annual St. Patrick's Day 5K/10K
Early last week I happened to glance at a race calendar and realized that the St. Patrick's Day 5K that I ran in 2014 was scheduled for Saturday, March 14. Although the 5K is about an hour away from me (it's held in Denton, MD), I liked the family-friendly atmosphere of the race last year and I really liked the fast and flat course. Since I didn't have anything else really planned for Saturday, I decided to sign up.

Sweat Therapy
Today wasn't the best day. A series of unpleasant events started at work and just kept on coming even after I had left the office. Add to that some rainy weather and by the late afternoon, my mood had taken a noticeable downward turn. Needless to say, I was not super enthused to tackle my run this afternoon. Originally I was scheduled for a rest day today but I missed my tempo run yesterday due to time constraints and I didn't want to skip the first strength building run on my schedule this week! So off to the gym I went.

My Current Running Schedule
Over the course of my running journey, I have run many, many different races - lots of 5Ks, several 5 milers, 10Ks, half-marathons and even a full marathon. OK - scratch that - I have PARTICIPATED in lot of races. I'll be honest and admit that I usually don't train to run races hard; I run in races because I enjoy the race day atmosphere, enjoy running besides lots and lots of people, and I like having a set goal (i.e. completing a set distance) to work towards as I run.

My First 5K
Since today is Thursday, I thought I would post a #TBT about my first 5K. Overall, it was a good experience for me - despite a few hiccups at the end.
I mentioned in a previous post that I followed a Couch-to-5K program to begin my running journey. I chose this type of program because at the time, my end goal was to be able to run a 5K; more specifically, I wanted to run the Baltimore Running Festival 5K, a local (and quite large) race that I had seen advertised at my gym. So I committed to this goal by signing up for the race, penciling my run/walks into the calendar for every week leading up the race, and embarking on my transformation from couch potato to real runner.

A lovely run outside...
Yesterday was the first time in about a week that I was able to run outside and it was awesome! I can't wait for all the snow and ice to melt so I can do that more frequently. I've managed to sneak out here and there for a run around my neighborhood this winter, but I'm getting tired of the same old route. I want to get back to running on the local trails.
